Wanda Sykes will be one of the first comedians to grace the new Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside. Warning: this show is not family friendly and will contain plenty of adult humor. Have I got your attention?
Sykes landed on the national stage in 2009 as she delivered the comedic roast of President Obama at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, becoming both the first African American woman and the first openly LGBT person to land the role. If you want a good preview of the show, check out the clips on YouTube of the 2009 HBO special: Wanda Sykes: I’ma Be Me. A regular guest on Real Time with Bill Maher, Sykes landed her own show in 2009: The Wanda Sykes Show.
For those who haven’t been to the Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside, you’re in for a treat. This beautifully restored venue provides an excellent setting for the cutting edge humor of Sykes. (Kudos to the Fox for booking an act with a young following.) Come early and grab a drink at the bar or enjoy dinner at one of the numerous restaurants within walking distance.
Tickets for the show are $35 to $79, with VIP at $99. Want to avoid the Ticketmaster charges? Drop by the Fox box office.
