UC Riverside Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jim Wooldridge announced the Highlanders tip off their 2012-13 schedule on the road at DePaul on Friday, November 9. Season tickets are on sale and available for purchase. (View The Entire Schedule).
It is the first meeting between UC Riverside and the Blue Demons, and just the second game between the Highlanders and a member of the Big East Conference.
“We have always played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the Big West,” said Wooldridge,” and this year’s schedule is no exception. I believe the team will benefit from this type of competition, and our fans will be excited about the challenges our non-conference schedule presents.”
Following the DePaul game, UCR remains in Chicago to take on UIC of the Horizon League on Sunday, November 11 at 12 pm.
The Highlanders home opener is slated for Wednesday, November 14 as they host the Mountain West’s Fresno State at the SRC Arena at 7 pm.
One week later, UCR packs its cold weather gear as the team heads to The Last Frontier for the 2012 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout. This is the first trip to the Shootout for the Highlanders who last year participated in the 76 Classic in Anaheim, picking up a 64-63 win over Washington State of the Pac 12 and taking Boston College of the ACC to overtime before falling, 66-62.
The Highlanders take on Northeastern of the Colonial Athletic Association in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday, November 21. After taking the day off for Thanksgiving, UC Riverside squares off against either Belmont of the Ohio Valley Conference or host Alaska Anchorage on Friday, November 23 depending on the outcome of the first round games. The final games of the event are scheduled for Saturday, November 24.
Other teams in the Shootout are Oral Roberts of the Summit League, who participated in the NIT last season; Loyola Marymount of the West Coast Conference, who participated in the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament; Charlotte from Conference USA; and Texas State of the WAC.
UCR has two road games in December taking trips to Pepperdine of the West Coast Conference on December 5 at 7 pm and to USC on December 15. The Mountain West’s Air Force travels to Southern California on Saturday, December 22 at 1 pm.
The final home game of the month on December 29 is also the Highlanders first conference games of the season as they host Cal Poly at the SRC Arena at 1 pm. One week later, UCR heads to the Aloha State to take on newest conference member Hawai’i.
Last year’s regular season and Big West Conference champs, Long Beach State, travel to Riverside on Thursday, January 17 at 7 pm, while the Highlanders return the trip on Saturday, February 16. UC Riverside hosts perennial conference contender and 2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament participant UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, February 20 at 7 pm.
This season’s Sears BracketBuster game sees the Highlanders heading out on the road for a Saturday, February 23 tilt. Opponents for Sears BracketBuster games are announced in early February.
The final home game of the season on Saturday, March 2 is also the Highlanders Homecoming game as Pacific comes to the SRC Arena at 5 pm. UC Riverside’s regular season comes to a close on the road Saturday, March 9 at UCSB beginning at 7 pm.
