A good round of golf should feel like you’re on vacation; an emergence of beautiful scenery, architecture, great people, food and a game of golf to keep reality in check. I recently had the opportunity to play at The Lakes at El Segundo in El Segundo, CA to see how some of those ideas come into play.
The Lakes at El Segundo is a 9 hole, par 29 golf course and has a practice facilities with 58 hitting stalls, as well as a chipping and pitching green with bunker so you can practice all aspects of your game. When I pulled up to the parking lot, I immediately realize it was a busy day, and that can be worrisome for many players who are trying to get away, but don’t want to be strained and have a dreadful long golf day. I am happy to say this wasn’t the case at this course. The staff was very welcoming which is a great feeling since in golf it’s like booking a hotel reservation and you want to be greeted and make sure everything is on time for you to check in with no delays. They managed reservations very well allowing for a consistent game all the way through, leaving me with a very satisfied pace of play especially for such a busy Father’s Day Sunday.
The course itself has a wonderful design. The grass for a public golf course was some of the best I have seen. The greens were in excellent shape and had a feeling of a very true roll and posing a very good challenge with tricky greens to read. It’s close to the freeway, though it didn’t deter from how green the course looked and felt to play on. Sand and water come into play on some holes and the course will help you, did I say help, let’s go with force you, to be more accurate if you don’t want to get into trouble.
Pricing for the course is very reasonable weekdays come in at $13.00 and weekends and holidays $15.00. They also have discounts for residents and you can find deals if you reserve online which is always the smartest thing to do for as low as $8.00 for weekdays. The range is also a great value which starts at $5.00 for a small bucket of 35 balls, $7.00 for 70 balls and $9.00 for 105 Balls.
Overall, I would highly recommend this course, I had a great time thanks to the very polite people playing on the course, and just having fun in good spirits. The staff were all very friendly and made for a pleasant golf outing for me. I didn’t get to eat at the course, but they do have a cafe and a comfortable club house inside and outside, overlooking the course and waterfall. I have to say, this is one of my favorite courses to play and look forward to playing it again.
