It’s that time of year again…fair season! Friday the 13th of July starts us off with the very popular Orange County Fair! Although it is technically smaller than the Los Angeles County Fair, it’s hardly noticeable with the wide variety of food and shopping opportunities.
Grab your friends and just eat your way through the fair. Fair staples such as fried Twinkies, large pickles, funnel cake, and anything on a stick is a must. Popular items like ”Pinks Hot Dogs”, “Old Tyme Ice Cream”, and the delectable “Ten Pound Buns” will be there. “The Great Food Truck” winners & popular contestants will also be making appearances! Grill ‘em all, The Grilled Cheese Truck, The Lime Truck, Rajin Cajun, and Crepes Bonaparte, plus your favorites from all over the LA and OC Counties. Please check the website for times. Not all food trucks will be there every day of the fair.
What else could you need? Oh yes. Beer, beer, and more beer. There’s always plenty of that! Indoor restaurants, private patios, and good old fashioned beer stands are scattered throughout the fairgrounds. Looking for something a little stronger? The fair also offers harder liquors, fun cocktails, and wine. Check out the courtyard for wine tastings!
The OC Fair has become a premier shopping destination in itself! I’ve known many people who actually wait to purchase products because they “saw a better one at the fair last year”. Unique jewelry, homemade crafts, toys, fun items for the house….you name it! I even have a Japanese painting hanging in my living room that I bought a few years ago.
The entertainment value is always amazing. Some of the free entertainment scheduled includes appearances by celebrity chefs Robert Irvine (Restaurant Impossible, The Worst Cook in America) & Fabio Viviani (Top Chef), the Peeking Acrobats, Miguel de Alonso, Brother Yusef, The Originalities, and much more. Not to mention checking out the cows, goats, chickens, pigs, and other barnyard animals. For a fun game, count how many people you see making animals sounds directly at the animals. Bonus points if they make the wrong sound!
Grab the kids, friends, co-workers, significant other, or take some much needed solo time and hit up the OC Fair starting July 13, 2012 and ending August 12, 2012. Open Wednesdays through Sundays only.
Ticket information: General (13-59) $11, Senior (60+) $8 , Youth (6-12) $6. Buy tickets online with no service fee through Ticketmaster! Check group sales for pricing discounts of groups of 15 or more. The Super Pass includes admission for all 23 days, express entry at the gate, discounts on shows, and a carnival coupon book. Check the website for special promotional days.
