Things To Do Inland Empire

Mardi Gras Restaurant – San Bernardino – Cajun/Creole

If you’re in downtown San Bernardino and are looking to try some of the best Cajun/Creole food in the Inland Empire, check out Mardi Gras Restaurant. The menu features fried Southern favorites such as Catfish, Shrimp, Chicken and Frog Legs as well as fried chicken & waffles a la Roscoe’s in LA.

Mardi Gras - San Bernardino - EntranceThis much talked about restaurant (see Inland So Cal, The Inland Empire SoCal Food Beat, Yelp, UrbanSpoon)  is located on North E street in Downtown San Bernardino near many of the office buildings. This is one of the hot spots for city workers in the downtown SB area.

Mardi Gras is also a staple of San Bernardino nightlife (to the extent there is such a thing) in the downtown area. Friday nights from 7pm – 10pm, the restaurants hosts live jazz bands, while Sundays from 1:30pm – 5pm is when you’ll find live R&B oldies.

The atmosphere is laid back, just as you would find in the south. A waitress greets you at the door and offers a choice of seats (the busy lunch crowd left few seats on my visit). The restaurant is clean and uncluttered, with only tasteful decorations.

Mardi Gras - San Bernardino - RestaurantOne of the cool things about the menu is that breakfast in served all day. I ordered the shrimp po’ boy sandwich with a side of red beans and rice and hush puppies. The prices are modest and the portions are generous (most lunch items are $7.95, while dinner starts at $10). The food was hot and it was clear that the beans were made from scratch and not heated from a can, which is all too common. The sandwich was served on a French roll cut in half had a generous helping of shrimp and the best sauce I’ve ever tasted. With breakfast is served all day, I’ll be back soon for the chicken and waffles. In case you don’t want to leave your house or work, they even offer delivery.

Mardi Gras is located at 201 North E Street, San Bernardino, CA. Open Mon.-Thur. 9am- 8pm,  Fri. – Sat. 9am – 10pm, and Sunday 10am – 5pm. (909) 884-5000. Parking available in front and in the a lot across the street. Orders availble online.
