**Editorial/Photographic Review Dated August 27, 2012**
The Los Angeles Epicurean Festival was nothing short of an awesome blend of wine, deserts, meats and fancy treats when it kicked off at Los Angeles’s historic Vibiana cathedral on Sunday, August 26.
Sampled for event goers were scores of wines with an international flavor. Indeed, many of the wine promoters had European accents, a testament to the global nature of the various reds and whites.
But the LA Epicurean Festival had a wide variety of neat foods served to event goers. Among one of the vendors was one serving Kangaroo, wild boar, and llama meat. Another served delicious grassfed meatballs. Even the fine Italian delicacy gelato was served, as well as roasted duck.
Events like these happen all throughout Southern California every year, but the Los Angeles Epicurean Festival is unique because it’s of a higher class. The various meats, wines, and foods were higher quality. How many food and wine festivals have a vendor serving Foie Gras?
This was the first year where the LA Epicurean Festival was open to the public after serving as an event open only to restauranteurs and dining industry professionals. But if you can go next year, by all means do it. If you live in the IE, the drive is worth the experience. Downtown LA was just a short 45-minute drive away, but the treats and drinks are great.
The venue itself also matched the class of the event. The Vibiana is a historical landmark with all the magnificence of a 19th Century cathedral. While it’s not completely original (it has been revamped) the building is reflective of the concrete jungle that is Downtown Los Angeles. Check out our pictures below to get a feel for the place and the event.
All in all, kudos to the event organizers. Here’s to the next Epicurean Festival in 2013.
