I just discovered Ilo Hair, located a couple blocks away from the Riverside Central Plaza, and now definitely consider it to be one of the best salons in the Inland Empire. Over the past two years I have been to countless hair stylists all over the I.E., but none had the same hair know-how, artistic flair, and friendly personal touch quite like my experience with Ilo.
Ilo’s design is postmodern with a funky whimsical flair. An ironic stylized large white ceramic moose head adorns the wall over the sinks; Pretty crystal chandeliers and crisp B&W photography complement the charcoal walls. Unlike the typical Bumble and Bumble or Aveda products that salons in this area frequently fall back on, Ilo chooses to go with the Swedish hair care line Sachajuan, a cutting edge company that has been getting rave reviews all over the fashion industry, the NY Times, and in magazines like Elle, Esquire, and Allure.
Extremely well versed in the most current hair trends, Brian Johnson, Ilo’s owner, shared with me his favorite fashion blogs (Death by Fashion, Mevoque) and had a lengthy discussion about hair trends in the US over the past 6 months. The stylists at his salon are comfortable with any hair trend, including feathering, hair extensions, braids, etc.
Brian tells me one of the most popular styles for the past few years in the Inland Empire is something called “ombre,” in which the hair is darkest at the top and then recedes into light at the ends. I decided to go with ombre hair coloring and absolutely love the look and feel of my hair. At the time of my styling, one lady was getting a Brazilian Keratin blowout, another lady was having her hair dyed, and several others were simply getting their hair cut. Everyone seemed particularly pleased with the final product.
