Hiking in Inland Southern California!

Looking for something to do this summer that’s fun and easy on the wallet? Go hiking! Southern California has an overwhelming number of hiking trails. From Joshua Tree to Los Angeles there are literally a lifetime of trails to explore. Since there are really too many trails to choose from we’ve compiled a small list to get you going in the right direction. Before diving right in be sure to check out a trail’s difficulty. Well known trails will have some information at the trailhead that gives you an indication of how difficult the hike is for most people. Summer is a great time for hiking, but it can get pretty hot in Southern California. So drink plenty of water. Get out there, don’t forget to pack the 10 essential items and be sure to check back with us to tell us how your hike was!

Some of our favorite local hikes!

Mt. Rubidoux

Cost: Free

Literally a walk in the park. Entirely paved, with some decent inclines and declines. Great place to go on a brisk walk/jog, early morning run, or for taking the family on a leisurely  stroll with plenty of scenic vistas and spots for a picnic.

Etiwanda Nature Preserve

Cost: Free

The nature preserve is beautiful, far removed from the congestion of the suburbs, and very easily accessible. There are a number of options for various trails so be sure to read the signs at the trailhead and/or bring a map! Tons of opportunities for family picnics.

Claremont Wilderness Trail

Cost: Free

This is an exercise trail. Beautiful place to get into shape. Check the trailhead map to make sure you know where you’re going.

Icehouse Canyon—Mt. Baldy

Cost: $5

This is a serious hike with some amazing scenery! I can’t recommend this hike enough. Beautiful shaded trail with a stream that keeps a steady rush of water going, all of which makes for a wonderful day. This trail can get pretty rugged, so come prepared!
