Hangar 18 Indoor Rock Climbing Gyms

Indoor rock climbing is one of the best ways to get into shape while having a great time and there is no better place to try out rock climbing than Hangar 18. While there are many reasons to love Hangar 18, the real reason they are such a great gym is because of how affordable and accessible they make themselves. Hangar 18 has three locations with one in South Bay L.A, Upland, Riverside, and a new location opening up in Long Beach. The really sweet part is that a membership to one location gets you into any of the three (soon to be four) gyms without a hitch. Signing up for a membership is a cinch (no start-up fees, no cancellation, just a flat monthly bill), plus they provide a myriad of discounts. So, it’s worth checking out their site to see if you qualify for a deal on a monthly membership. At least be sure to sign up for their mailing list to receive up-to-date specials and cool event notifications such as local climbing competitions, or opportunities for some excitement outdoors. All three locations provide three different types of climbing for people of every experience level. If you’re not familiar with indoor rock climbing there are three main ways of going about the sport; top-roping, lead-climbing (a class is required to become lead-certified, but with a Hangar 18 membership these classes are free!), and bouldering with each type of climbing ranked by a grading system to indicate difficulty. For the top-rope and lead-climbing walls the grades run from 5.5-5.13, while the bouldering grades run from VB to V11. Sound confusing? Don’t worry, the staff at Hangar 18 are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and will gladly help you with any questions you have. As an added bonus, the Riverside location has a fully functional, more traditional gym within the rock climbing gym where in addition to free-weights and work-out machines they offer classes such as Military Abs, Yoga, and Zumba. Access to Riverside’s traditional gym does require a separate membership from the rock climbing section of Hangar 18, but they provide a generous discount to anyone who is a member of the rock climbing gym seeking a membership to their more traditional gym. If this all sounds like a mouthful, just head on down to any of their locations and pick-up a day pass and see what it’s all about!
