RIVERSIDE — If belting out Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” is part of your holiday tradition, there is a new event on the
calendar that might be of interest.
A Messiah Singalong, with orchestra, is free and open to the community at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at La Sierra University Church, 4937 Sierra Vista Ave.
The choir on stage will include singers from the Raincross Chorale, the Riverside Master Chorale, area high schools, and the Riverside Mission Belles. The orchestra will come from La Sierra University and the University of California, Riverside. Steve Kester and Ruth Charloff will share conducting duties.
But the best part of the tradition is that the audience members bring a Messiah score and sing along from the audience.
“This is a gift from the City of Riverside to the people of Riverside,” said Sandy Tarmo, one of the event organizers. The group is still looking for singers who want to be part of the event. For more information: reach Sandy Tarmo at gmasandy4@gmail.com
The Raincross Chorale performs a variety of choral music in the Inland Empire, at least one concert with orchestra. It is the official choir for the Evensong, part of Riverside’s annual Dickens Festival. The group has successfully raised thousands of dollars to support scholarships for young singers.
