Augies Coffee House in Redlands is one of those coffee places that cares about aesthetics as much as it cares about the coffee. When you
walk inside their sole location, in beautiful downtown Redlands, you’re instantly welcomed with warm baristas, the smell of good coffee, and an interior design that caters to studying students and conversationalists alike. In a coffee shop like this one it’s very easy to assume that design is all that they care about. Coffee seems to go to the wayside when design is the main focus, but, as the owner Austin informed me, creating a space that cares about coffee as much as the clients was always a key factor in making Augie’s Coffee House.
Everything that goes into the finished product is thought over meticulously and carefully. Whether you’re getting a blended beverage, or a black cup of coffee, you can be assured that the wonderful staff at Augie’s put everything they have into it. That’s one of the most impressive things about this coffee house, the dedication. Everyone that works in there has put it upon themselves to be as knowledgeable about coffee as they can. Augie’s is a shining example of what happens when a dedicated and educated staff comes together to produce a superior product.
This brings me to their roasting. They are roasting their own coffee and it’s getting around to some great coffee spots. Their coffee has been popping up literally all over the country. Los Angeles is also taking in Augie’s coffee at two locations, Demitasse and Chimney Coffee House. Coffee has been on the up and up in Los Angeles thanks to groups like Intelligentsia and Handsome Coffee so it’s nice to see someone from the Inland Empire get the recognition they deserve. In fact, Augie’s has been featured on the Craft Coffee blog which is a real honor for anyone in the coffee business. Right now it seems to be that Augie’s is roasting the coffee that’s set to become the next big thing out of Southern California’s growing coffee scene.
Augie’s also makes sure that they are constantly supporting the local businesses and industries in the area. They’ve worked with Hangar 24 in the past and have put their coffee into some of Hangar’s special casks. Every Sunday they also work with A La Minute Ice Cream Shop and make their special Affogato’s (Ice Cream with espresso poured over it) with Augie’s espresso blend. If
you haven’t tried one yet, please, do yourself a favor and go any Sunday you can.
If you’re new to the coffee world, or a veteran of the scene, Augie’s is a place that should be on your radar. They provide an atmosphere and staff that love to educate about coffee and lend a helping hand to those who want to learn. Whatever brew method or Single origin variety you’re craving, Augie’s has got you covered. Oh, and if you can’t stop in, don’t worry, they have a completely stocked online store with all the coffee and some of the goods they sell in house. Next time you’re in Redlands, make sure you stop on by and have one of the best cups of coffee in both the Inland Empire and Southern California.
