One of our favorite things here in the Inland Empire is how mom and pop shops always seem to work together! Probably one of the 
most delicious examples of this is Augie’s Coffee House and A La Minute in Redlands team up every Sunday for Affogatos! If you don’t know what those are, don’t worry, not a lot of folks do. Basically it’s yummy vanilla ice cream topped with espresso. Augie’s and A La Minute are no amateurs though and they flair it up with some cocoa powder for a delightful presentation.
Every single Sunday from 12-5pm Augie’s brings over a coffee cart to A La Minute and they pour shots of their amazing espresso over scoops of A La Minute ice cream. One of the most fascinating things about this whole process is how local it is! I’m not just talking about the location but all of the ingredients. The ice cream is hand made at A La Minute right in front of you and Augie’s roasts their own beans right down the road. Essentially the process is as much about Redlands as it is about the flavor.
They don’t mess around on Sundays for Affogatos. It has a tendency to fill up fast and get crowded. But once you’ve had one bit of their Affogatos, you will understand why. People seem to come out of the wood works just to get their hands on fresh Affogatos made right then and there. Luckily, they do this for about 5 hours every Sunday so you’re bound to find a time when they aren’t too busy and you can snag one in a hurry. Word of warning though, A La Minute only makes Affogatos on Sundays but every other day of the week they are making their amazing ice cream concoctions.
Oh and if you’re wondering if Augies stays open on Sundays, well of course they do. You can stop at A La Minute and get an Affogato and then head right down the street to Augies and get one of their amazing coffees. In fact, you might want to start hitting these places up more because they are starting to create a buzz around the coffee and food blogs. Who knew that the I.E. was on the cutting edge of cuisine and coffee?! Well, we all did of course!
One last thing folks! Augie’s and A la Minute have started to do Affogatos on Thursdays at Redlands’ Market night. So if you can’t catch it on a Sunday, you may be able to snag one on a Thursday!
